Preserve America Community:
Erlanger, Kentucky

Erlanger (population 16,676) began as Erlanger Proper Subdivision, one of the first planned subdivisions in northern Kentucky.

Platted in 1887, the community was located at a railroad depot of the Cincinnati Southern Railroad that was constructed in 1877. The depot, which is the last remaining wooden depot along the rail line from Cincinnati to Chattanooga, today is home to the Erlanger Historical Society.

The cities of Erlanger and Elsmere have joined together to create "The Dixie" Renaissance Advisory Committee, which has developed design guidelines for historic buildings in downtown Erlanger and has implemented streetscape improvements.
